Road

In road cycling, 22-year-old Tadej Pogacar from Slovenia followed up his Tour de France victory with a bronze medal in the men's road race on Saturday, July 24. Starting as one of the favorites for the win, the young prodigy blew the race apart with an aggressive attack on Mikuni Pass, a 10km climb at an average of 10.6%. Cresting the summit with only 34km left to go, the peloton had been whittled down to 10 riders. Ecuador's Richard Carapaz took home gold with a solo break and only Belgium's Wout Van Aert was faster than Tadej Pogacar in the dash to the line. Tadej was riding the KEO BLADE CARBON Ceramic TI pedals for his first Olympic venture. Simply mind-blowing.

The very next day, Annemiek van Vleuten of The Netherlands won silver in the women's road race. At 38 years young, the reigning European champion thought she finally held the Olympic title after her spectacular crash in Rio 2016, sustained only a few kilometers from the finish as she lead the race. Yet that was forgetting Austrian Anna Kiesenhofer, the only survivor of the morning breakaway, who succeeded in holding off the powerful Dutch team in a chaotic race where communication was muddled by the absence of earpieces. Annemiek Van Vleuten made up for it the next day by winning gold in the individual time trial. In the end, it was one athlete and two medals for our KEO 2 MAX CARBON pedals.

Loana Lecomte of France took 6th place in the women's MTB cross-country event on Tuesday, July 27. After winning the first four stages of the World Cup and before setting her sights on Paris 2024, the 22-year-old will attempt to finish the season on a high at the last two World Cup events in September.
