2nd place for Denis Chevrot at 70.3 Pays d’Aix

Everything was set for a beautiful sunny weekend in Aix-en-Provence… but after blue skies on Saturday the rain decided to join the party on Sunday morning and the conditions rapidly went from bad to worse. With clouds threatening overhead and the thermometre indicating a measly 8 degrees Celsius, the pros dived into the 20-degree water as the amateur field, including Look athlete Laurent Jalabert, shivered on the shores waiting their turn.
Giving away a minute in the water to leader Robin Pasteur, Denis Chevrot was quick to ride himself back into contention on his 796 MONOBLADE and joined the lead pack. Things got tougher as the weather worsened however, with roads turning treacherous in the pouring rain. German athlete Andi Boecherer was the only one to really take advantage of the difficult conditions and pulled away, putting enough time into his competitors to secure a comfortable win.

Behind him, Denis was 9th out of T2 but a great run saw him reel in athlete after athlete ahead of him. He snatched 2nd place in the last kilometres through the streets of Aix, stopping the clock at 3h58’08 for a well-earned spot on the podium.

Laurent Jalabert, already qualified for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii later this year, confirmed he is an accomplished triathlete as well as cyclist, winning his age group in a time of 4h29’55. He too was riding the 796 MONOBLADE.
