Monier finally gets first pro win in Stage 17 of the Giro!
Damien Monier (Cofidis) is in his eighth season as a professional and his eighth year with the Cofidis team wins stage 17 of the Giro d'Italia on his LOOK 595 and the Kéo Blade pedals.
Monier powered away from his breakaway companions, climbing to the win over Danilo Hondo (Lampre) and Steven Kruijswijk (Rabobank). He had attacked out of the escape group to take his team's first win in this year's Giro, escaping from the two others at the steepest part of the closing climb with three kilometres to go and then soloing to victory 36 seconds ahead of Hondo.
The peloton was still over 11 minutes down when Monier threw his arms up in victory, but David Arroyo's maglia rosa was not endangered. Arroyo is riding on the LOOK Kéo 2 Max pedals.
